Visit of the Ambassador of Malaysia
At the end of this May, Zoo Zlín hosted a rare visitor. Its director, Roman Horský, welcomed the ambassador of Malaysia to the Czech Republic, H.E. Suzilah Binti Mohd Sidek. The ambassador herself paid the visit in order to support cooperation between the local zoo and the Malaysian ones.
"I was very pleased with the ambassador's interest in visiting our zoo, especially her initiative to help expanding cooperation with Malaysian zoological gardens. Thanks to our membership in the Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums Association, I had an opportunity to visit some of the Malaysian gardens in person. Long-term cooperation and friendly ties connect us with the Taman Negara Zoo, where, for example, our breeding musters of rare milky and painted storks come from. We are the only non-Asian zoo breeding both of these species regularly. I believe the ambassador's personal involvement is going to help expanding the cooperation with the other Malaysian zoos," Roman Horský claimed.
The ambassador, accompanied by the director of the zoo, visited the Bay of Rays exhibit. Her Excellency was amused by the direct contact with the Oman cownose rays as well as by the possibility to hand feed them. She also toured the Gora Ark aviary, the Kerala exhibit, Ethiopia, Jaguar Trek, and the Karibuni. “You have managed to create a truly unique area for the elephants, I am absolutely amazed by its size and layout, it really feels like we were in Africa. Thank you for facilitating all the wonderful experiences at your zoo, I will be very happy to help you in developing cooperation with zoological institutions in Malaysia," Her Excellency affirmed.
