A numerous group of geladas grew bigger again this year. In the middle of July, female Asmera gave birth to first young and second young was born on 1st September to female Mia. In total, we have bred 10 young which are staying in the zoo. Zlín Zoo is the only Czech zoo where visitors can admire gelada young.
Geladas live on high grassland plateaus of north and central Ethiopian highlands. This is the only place on the planet they live. They are strict vegetarians, their diet is made practically only of grass. Therefore, they habit spacious grassy enclosure in African part of the zoo.
