Visitors can already look forward to a major transformation of the Australian area. As part of the modernization of the current walk-through kangaroo enclosure, we plan to build an extensive new complex that will provide upgraded spaces not only for our kangaroos but also — for the first time — for wombats. The area will also include two aviaries for exotic birds, creating a diverse and attractive environment for both visitors and animals.
The existing kangaroo enclosure will be preserved and complemented by two new habitats designed exclusively for wombats. A key feature of the new exhibit will be the option to connect the two wombat enclosures. If needed, they can be joined by a lockable passage, allowing flexible use of the space according to current animal care needs. The original indoor facilities for kangaroos will undergo a complete renovation. After the upgrades, they will provide modern housing and keeper areas for both kangaroos and wombats. These indoor spaces will be equipped with heating for the winter months and cooling for hot summer days, ensuring optimal living conditions for the animals year-round.
To help the new construction blend naturally into the Australian-themed area, the buildings will be clad in corrugated metal with a rust-like finish, giving them an authentic and natural look. In addition to aesthetic features, the project includes ecological measures: two concrete tanks with a capacity of 13.2 m³ will be installed to collect rainwater, which will then be used to irrigate the outdoor habitats. Along with the new enclosures and facilities, the visitor path will also be redesigned. The new route will lead past both wombat habitats and offer several viewpoints, giving visitors unique perspectives of the wombats in a setting that mimics their natural environment. Visitors will also have an exclusive opportunity to peek inside the indoor areas of these fascinating nocturnal animals.
Construction of the new exhibit is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion planned for 2027.
