The renovation of the indoor habitat of Moloch gibbons about to finish, the visitors to observe the species in winter

The immense repairs of the indoor habitat in our Hala-Bala exhibit in the Asian district of the zoo are going to bring a new, comfortable space for the Moloch gibbons. It is going to include a few surprises for the visitors, too!

This October, our zoo is going to complete an immense reconstruction of the inner quarters for the Moloch gibbons. It is going to be spacious and comfortable and for the first time ever, the visitors will be able to observe this species during the winter season. The financial costs are believed to reach 12 000 000 CZK. The zoo is going to cover the renovation fully from the own funds.

„The renovation itself consists of the original habitat for the Moloch gibbons and Malayan tapirs built in 1996. Sadly, they were not meeting the current sufficient dimensions for breeding. This was the trigger to transform the space, providing above-standard conditions for the gibbons. The Malayan tapirs found a temporary refuge in the former elephant house, having their very own facility, Nusantara, built,“ claimed Roman Horský, the director of the Zlín Zoo.

„The new indoor habitat is going to take the area of 120 square meters. It is going to have lots of sunlight, provided by large windows. There is also going to be built an enrichment area, including hanging ropes and other elements. Thanks to the system of ladders and ropes the gibbons will be able to ascend to the current outdoor habitat the small adjacent island. „The entire area is going to be complemented by Buddha statues and various etnographical objects and plants. Also, we would like to build there a massage path, offering a natural relaxation,“ Roman Horský explained.
The reconstruction is going to bring a brand new opportunity to the visitors, „Until now, the visitors could have admired the Moloch gibbons in the main season only, for there was no option to visit the inner quarters. „From now on, it is going to be possible to visit them inside. Therefore, I would like to invite everyone to visit the zoo at the end of the year. It is going to be a truly extraordinary and fun experience,“ emphasized Horský with a smile.
