Centrum Caudata

Year openede: 2011

Set up near the Lešná Chateau, the building attracts attention from afar with its walls of black sporting yellow silhouettes of fire salamanders, which is the very creature dominating the display. Its indoor equipment is mimicking that of a research station used by scientists to study life and management of caudate amphibians - hence the name of the centre that was lent from Latin language. The salamanders can be observed dwelling in spacious tanks.

In addition, you can also encounter members of newts and toads. In 2012, we also introduced a new permanent outdoor display - based close to the centre, it became a setting to hold over 20 adult fire salamanders.

The facility includes a wintering section and a shallow pool for salamanders to bear their larval stages. A documentary is screened inside the centre every day during the high season, bringing you closer to the life cycle of caudate amphibians. In July and August, an employee is also available to take you for a guided tour of the centre and tell you more about the species we hold.
